Sissala East Joins Global Fight Against Corruption: LANet Bapagu Leads Awareness Campaign
In commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD), the Sissala East Municipal Assembly has actively joined the global movement against corruption. Mr. Bashiru Nuhu Bapagu, a Local Anti-Corruption Network (LANet) member, spearheaded a two-day, impactful awareness campaign under the 2025 theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.”
The initiative, which aligns with the national efforts outlined by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) in partnership with the funders of the project, the EU, the Flora and Williams Hewlett Foundation, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), targeted key sectors of the community: youth and education.
The campaign commenced on Monday, December 8, 2025, with a vibrant session at the Fresh Boys Base, a notable youth hub in Tumu town. Mr. Bapagu delivered an insightful presentation focusing on the core concept of corruption and the critical role of the “Whistleblowers Act.”
The session was highly interactive, with members of the base engaging robustly, asking several pertinent questions, which were addressed by the LANet member. This direct engagement sought to empower the youth, who are recognized as key drivers of change in the anti-corruption movement, to embrace integrity and accountability.
The second, and final, day of the campaign, held today, December 9, 2025—the official IACD—took the message to the educational sector. Mr. Bapagu visited the Tumu Stadium Residential Basic School, the best-performing basic school in the municipality.

The assembly was well-attended, featuring the headmistress, staff, and the entire Junior High School (JHS) block, alongside some primary students. Mr. Bapagu carried out a similar mission, educating the students on the theme of the celebration and the importance of ethical behavior. The young audience demonstrated keen interest, posing thoughtful questions related to the fight against corruption.
Quoting the LANet member on the importance of the outreach, Mr. Bashiru Nuhu Bapagu stated, “The future of the Sissala East Municipality and Ghana rests on the shoulders of these young people. Our job today is to arm them with the knowledge and moral courage to reject, resist, and report corruption, making them the vanguards of integrity in our community. We must empower them to embody the 3Rs of anti-corruption: Reject, Resist, and Report.”

The 2025 IACD activities aim to sensitize and empower youth on the effects of corruption on development and livelihoods, the importance of whistleblowing as a tool for accountability, and their roles as responsible citizens in promoting transparency and integrity.
The campaign in Sissala East is a localized effort supporting the broader national goal to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in the fight against corruption, particularly targeting the youth across 87 districts in all 16 regions of Ghana.

The International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) is observed annually on December 9th, a global call to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in the fight against corruption, under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
