Gbele Tented Luxury Camp Records First Official Student Visit

The Tented Luxury Camp at the Gbele Resource Reserve has welcomed its first official group of student patrons since the facility was established in 2006. The milestone occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026, when students and teachers from Tumu Senior High Technical School and Kanton Senior High School embarked on an educational and recreational visit to the reserve. The delegation comprised 15 students and three teachers from Tumu Senior High Technical School, alongside 11 students and one teacher from Kanton Senior High School.

The visit exposed the students to the natural environment of the reserve and provided them with opportunities to participate in outdoor and recreational activities. The first day began with a four-kilometre hike from the entrance of the Tented Luxury Camp. At the camp, patrons participated in obstacle activities including vertical log posts, balance beams and leopard crawl. They also engaged in games including Oware, draughts, playing cards and Ludo.

The programme attracted tourism stakeholders, including Mr Dennis Apusika from the Upper East Region, who walked from Bolgatanga to Accra within 27 days, the Upper West Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr Kwasi Anim-Lardi, and tour guide Mr Ras Bob Pelpuo.

The trip was organised by the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission in the Sisaala East Municipality and Mr Fatawu Ayamga Bawa, a freelance journalist, tour guide and photojournalist.

The Tented Luxury Camp offers visitors an opportunity to experience the natural environment and serenity of the reserve. Organisers say increasing patronage could help generate greater attention to the facility and strengthen calls for improvements in infrastructure and communication services.

The Gbele Resource Reserve was established in 1975 and covers approximately 565 square kilometres across three administrative areas in the Upper West Region, namely, Sisaala East Municipal, SisaalaWest District and Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District.
