Sissala West Assembly Launches Land Registration Drive Amid Infrastructure Boom
The Sissala West District Assembly has announced a critical exercise to document and register all government properties and reserve land for future development, a strategic move aimed at securing public assets and ensuring planned expansion across the district. The announcement was the cornerstone of a major infrastructure tour and sod-cutting ceremony led by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sissala West and Deputy Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Technology, Hon. Mohammed Adams Supkaru, alongside the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Abudu Fuseini Gbene.

Speaking at the Sangbaka community, where a new CHPS Compound is set to be constructed, DCE Gbene emphasized the urgent need for a structured land registry. “Very soon, the Sissala West District Assembly engineers and the physical planning unit officers will visit all communities to document and register all government properties,” Hon. Gbene stated. He tasked the chiefs and elders of the communities to cooperate with the visiting officials and, crucially, to register a sizeable plot of land for the government projects to accommodate future expansion. In his address, MP Supkaru focused on addressing two of the district’s most pressing concerns: digital connectivity and electrification.

Responding to pleas for network access, the MP revealed that the government is rolling out a major national project to address connectivity challenges. “Government is intending of erecting 500 small network poles across the country. In early January, feasibility studies will be carried out in such selected communities, of which Kandia and other Sissala West communities will be heavily considered,” he announced, offering hope to rural communities currently suffering from poor network service.

Addressing the plight of Sangbaka, Paana, and Kunni, which remain off the national grid, the MP committed to a swift resolution. He noted that while the previous NDC government had been working on the project, the community was left behind, with only Gbelle connected in the intervening years. Following up with the Ministry of Energy, Hon. Supkaru said Minister John Jinapor has assured him that Sangbaka will be connected to the national grid before the construction of its CHPS Compound is completed. He further made a broad commitment that all remaining communities will be connected to the national grid before the end of his tenure as MP.

The delegation toured six communities to handover sites funded primarily by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), with strict deadlines set for contractors. The DCE, at Sorbelle, warned that since all funds were ready, no delays would be tolerated for the projects, which include: Drilling and mechanizing boreholes in Sorbelle and Kandia CHPS Compounds, Construction of new CHPS Compounds in Bouti (MP’s Fund), Sangbaka, and the completion of a CHPS Compound in Kusali, where the old structure will be converted into nurses’ accommodation. The others are, Construction of a modern KG block in Jeffisi Gwowi, which includes two classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, an office, KVIP, and a playground, with a six-month completion target. The comprehensive tour signals a major push for development in Sissala West, combining essential infrastructure with strategic policy decisions on land and connectivity to foster sustainable growth.
