Education is the solution to all our problems -Sissala East Municipal MCE

Today, the 2nd of September 2025, marks the reopening of all basic schools in Ghana, as indicated in the academic calendar of the Ghana Education Service. This significant day was observed with selected schools within the Sissala East municipality, attracting notable figures to some schools for the first time dubbed “My first day at School”.

Certain routes were designated for key personalities within the municipality. Key figures who participated in the day’s events included the Municipal Education Service Director, the Municipal Chief Executive for Sissala East, the Municipal Agricultural Commander, among other distinguished individuals. Each team was tasked with visiting schools to interact with pupils especially new entrance to KG1 and those going to Basic one(1), teachers, and parents who attended the “My First Day at School” event.

The Municipal Education Director, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive and the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for the Walembelle circuit, toured communities from Walembelle through Bugubelle, Vamboi, Bandei, Sakalu, and Sakai to Tumu. The team made stops in all communities and schools along the route, visiting a total of 10 schools, with Walembelle and Sakai having the highest number of schools within their communities. Walembelle hosts three schools: Dagbasu Basic School, Walembelle LA School, and Walembelle Holy Child School, while Sakai comprises Sakai Basic-A, Sakai Basic-B, and Sakai Islamic, also with three schools.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Adamu Yakubu, encouraged students to take their studies seriously, emphasizing their potential to become future presidents, ministers, nurses, and teachers. “I can see presidents, ministers, MCEs, teachers, and nurses among you. So study hard,” he stated at Walembelle Holy Child School. He also urged parents to provide the necessary support for their children’s education and advised teachers to nurture students carefully, as they represent the future leaders of Ghana.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Charles Lewil, who addressed each school before the MCE, offered words of encouragement to students, teachers, and parents in attendance. The Director advised pupils not to abandon their education for illegal mining activities, stating that his position was a testament to the power of education. “I am here speaking to you as the Education Director. If you aspire to be like me or the MCE, study diligently and aim to surpass us one day,” he remarked at Vamboi Basic School.

Walembelle Holy Child, Vamboi Basic, and Sakai schools had the highest student attendance on the first day of school. These schools were also the only ones where parents were present, awaiting the visitors. The team’s visits commenced at 9:30 a.m. and concluded at 1:30 p.m. in Sakai.
