[WATCH LIVE] State Funeral for Helicopter crash victims underway

The government will today, Friday, August 15, 2025, hold a state funeral in Accra for the eight individuals who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The ceremony, expected to draw senior state officials, members of the security services, and dignitaries from across the country, will honour the memory of the fallen, whose deaths have been described as a great loss to the nation.

The victims are Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong; former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Two of the victims, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, were buried earlier on Sunday, August 10, in line with Islamic rites.

The remaining six will be interred following today’s state funeral rites, which will feature full military honours.

The August 6 crash occurred as the officials travelled to Obuasi for an anti-galamsey programme, a mission that has since sparked renewed national calls for intensified action against illegal mining.
