Two arrested over parliamentary rerun violence
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with violent disturbances that marred the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, July 11, 2025.
A statement issued by the police on Wednesday, July 23, confirmed that the suspects—Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager at STC, and Ali Saeed, also known as Alias Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman—are currently assisting with investigations.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts to bring perpetrators of electoral violence to justice following multiple reports of assaults and intimidation at various polling stations during the rerun.
“The Accra Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to ensuring that all persons responsible for acts of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the elections are brought to justice,” the statement read.
The Command also encouraged the public to share credible information that could aid ongoing investigations by contacting emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
The rerun in Ablekuma North was conducted after the original 2024 results were annulled by the Electoral Commission following legal and procedural challenges. The election ultimately led to the victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn after the July 11 rerun.
