Tumu Hospital sees three new borns on New Year Eve
Three newly born babies were delivered at the Sissala East government hospital at Tumu on New Year’s eve.
This was disclosed to the RadfordFM News 107.5FM during a visit to the hospital after midnight of 31st December 2024.
Senior Staff Midwife Madam Gifty Haayin, who delivered the first baby, said at about 4:30am, the first female baby weighed 3.1kg with a full length of 49 and a head circumference of 34 cm was successfully delivered.
The mother, Naazar Amina,32 years old said she was elated seeing her first female daughter after four boys birthed between 14 years since she delivered her first child in her marriage.
A second baby boy was delivered at 6:33am by Mrs Hanna Salamatu, weighing 4.4kg, by Dr Charles Agyakum Wood through a caesarean session. It was the mothers first child after two unsuccessful deliveries.
She told GNA, “I am grateful to God and the Medical team for delivering my baby”.
A third baby of the year was recorded by 24-year-old Baduomie Hagbene. She delivered her second baby boy by 8:02am Wednesday by Senior Staff Patience Agmera at the Maternity ward of the Tumu hospital.
Madam Genevieve Bayirebe, Acting incharge, Maternity ward, Tumu Hospital, told RadfordFM reporter in an interview that the maternity ward has only two delivery beds and is woefully inadequate for the population of thousands who patronise the facility. She added that,
“The delivery room is also too small and crowded for both the midwife and the pregnant woman as well as the equipment.It needs expansion”.
At the Gwollu government hospital, Senior Staff Midwife Nana Ayisha finished delivering a woman at 1:27am. She delivered a male baby with a weight of 3.4kg H/C = 32cm, F/L=52cm. The boy was the first son of the parents after many years of females in the family.
