Kpunjnang FC Secure First Win of the Season After Dramatic Interruption in Tumu

Kpunjnang FC recorded their first victory of the 2024/25 UWRFA Division II League on Sunday morning, edging Hilla Stars FC 2–1 in a rescheduled encounter at the Tumu Sports Stadium Astro Turf. The win comes after seven match days and marks a significant milestone for the club’s campaign.

The fixture had drawn attention a day earlier after an unusual incident forced a stoppage late in the second half. Around the 53rd minute, with the score level at 1–1, a clearance by a Hilla Stars defender struck a floodlight pole near the pitch. Unbeknownst to players at the time, the pole housed a swarm of bees, which quickly invaded the field of play. Match officials, prioritising the safety of players and officials, suspended the game. Reports later confirmed that Hilla Stars’ head coach and several players were stung during the incident.

Following consultations between match officials, team representatives, and the match commissioner, it was agreed that the game would resume at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday at the same venue. When play restarted, Kpunjnang FC showed renewed determination and composure, finding the decisive goal to seal a 2–1 victory over their opponents.

The result represents a breakthrough moment for Kpunjnang FC and their head coach, Tahiru Lamme, whose side had struggled to convert performances into points earlier in the season. The win not only lifts morale within the camp but also provides a foundation for improved results in the remaining fixtures.

While the match will be remembered for the rare bee disturbance, it ultimately belongs to Kpunjnang FC for their resilience and perseverance. For the club and its supporters, the victory signals hope and a turning point as the Division II season continues in the Upper West Region.
