Bees Force Suspension of Kpunjnang FC vs Hilla Stars Match at Tumu Sports Stadium
The Division II league encounter between Kpunjnang FC and Hilla Stars at the Tumu Sports Stadium Astro Turf was brought to an abrupt halt following an unusual incident involving a swarm of bees on Saturday, 27th December, 2025.
The incident occurred about ten minutes into the second half when a Hilla Stars defender, while attempting to clear the ball from his goal area, kicked it against a floodlight pole located within the stadium. Unknown to players and officials at the time, the floodlight pole housed a beehive. The impact of the ball disturbed the bees, causing them to swarm onto the pitch.

Players from both teams, match officials, and spectators were immediately affected, prompting concerns over safety. As a result, the referee had no option but to stop the game to prevent possible stings and injuries.
Efforts to calm the situation proved difficult, and after assessing the risk posed by the bees, match officials decided that play could not continue under the circumstances. The game was therefore suspended, with further decisions expected from the relevant football authorities regarding the outcome or rescheduling of the fixture.

The incident has sparked discussions about stadium safety checks, particularly around floodlight structures and other facilities that could pose unforeseen risks during matches.
