100 Girls in Jirapa Benefit from Girls-in-ICT Training Programme

On September 23, 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jirapa, Hon. Peter N. N To-ang, visited the campus of St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School to interact with 100 basic school girls selected for the Girls-in-ICT programme in the municipality.

The participants, drawn from both public and private basic schools, are undergoing training aimed at equipping them with essential digital literacy skills. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation in partnership with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, seeks to empower girls and inspire them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

During his engagement with the girls, Hon. To-ang emphasized the growing importance of ICT in education and development. He encouraged the participants to take the training seriously, reminding them that digital skills will be a crucial tool for their future careers. He also called on the trainers to exercise patience and commitment as they guide the students through the programme.

“The Assembly is fully behind this initiative and will continue to support efforts to ensure the successful rollout of the programme in Jirapa,” he assured.

The Girls-in-ICT programme continues to be a nationwide effort to bridge the gender gap in technology and create opportunities for young girls to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
