Bosomtwe District Chief Executive alarmed by rising drug abuse among youth in the area
The Bosomtwe District Chief Executive, Ing Abdullah Hamidu, has expressed serious concern over the alarming rate of drug abuse among the youth in the area.
He has called on stakeholders to urgently intervene to curb the growing menace.
Speaking on Ghanakoma Morning Show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on September 5,2025, the DCE noted that substances like tramadol and marijuana are being abused at an alarming rate, posing serious health and security risks.
He emphasized that if urgent measures are not taken, the District’s reputation could be severely affected.
Hamidu appealed to the religious leaders, traditional authorities, parents, and law enforcement agencies to join forces in fighting drug abuse among the youth.
He stressed that it is time for a collective approach to protect the future of the younger generation.
The DCE urged young people to stay away from drugs, warning that it could lead to serious health complications and even premature death.
The DCE’s call has sparked discussions on the need for increased awareness and rehabilitation programs to help curb the rising trend of drug abuse in the District.
He described the situation as alarming, warning that substance abuse is rapidly derailing the future of many young people in the area. He said youth involvement in drugs is contributing to rising crime in the area.
“Many of our young people are now caught up in drug abuse. As a DCE, I am committed to working with our traditional leaders, the police, and other stakeholders to address the canker. We are developing interventions that will combine sensitisation, law enforcement, job creation, and vocational skills training,” he said.
He described Bosomtwe as a peaceful District with enormous agricultural potential and a strategic location in Ashanti Region, making it a viable hub for Agro-based investment. He said attracting investors to tap into the district’s natural resources would create jobs and reduce the vulnerability of the youth to drugs and crime.
“We have yam, maize, cassava- all ripe for Agro-processing. Our appeal is for private investors to come in and help us turn these opportunities into jobs for our youth”, he stated.
