Kokofu calls for a change of NPP leadership
Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has underscored the need for a total overhaul of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership.
Speaking in an interview with our reporter on phone,he said the party cannot continue to tolerate the kind of leadership currently being portrayed.
“There must be a complete cleanup; we cannot continue to tolerate this kind of leadership,” he stated.
The structures of the party have been disintegrated. I have what it takes to heal the party. It is achievable. What inspired me most are the works of Former President Akufo-Addo and former President Kufuor.
Dr Kokofu pointed out that the NPP executives must be changed. “The message from the grassroots is clear: this crop of party executives must be changed,” he added, insisting it was time for renewal.
He was of the view that the party needs fresh leadership to revitalize its base and secure victory in future elections.
“We must heal the NPP and restore unity as we prepare for the 2028 elections,” he said.
His remarks follow the party’s defeat in the just-ended Akwatia by-election, where the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu lost to the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo.
Dr Kotofu said that the outcome of the Akwatia by-election has exposed weaknesses in the party’s structures.
“Our organisational machinery was weak, and our structures poorly grounded—and that was clearly reflected in the Akwatia outcome,” he disclosed.
