Two Nursing Mothers and Six Pregnant Teenagers Write BECE in Sissala East
Two nursing mothers and six pregnant teenagers are among the 1,295 currently sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Sissala East Municipality. There were also six absentees, comprising three girls and three boys who had dropped out of school and two girls who also dropped out, with one girl reported to have been married off.
Mr. Cornelius Longyintuo, the Examination Officer for Sissala East Municipality, speaking to RadfordFM Radio during a visit to the schools where the exams are been written.
Mr Longyintuo stated that a total of 1,295 pupils are expected to take the exams, which includes 530 males and 765 females. He said the Examination is being held at two centers: Kanton Senior High School and Tumu Senior High Technical School, with a total of 44 invigilators present, along with security personnel.
Mr. Lewil Charles, the Municipal Director of Education, urged the students to adhere to examination rules and put up their best effort.
The Municipal Police Commander ASP Johnson Adusei Poku announced that he would sponsor the best male and best female candidates with full scholarships to continue their education at senior high school. He emphasised that he would be present throughout the week to monitor the BECE examinations at both centres.
Hon. Issah Mohammed Bataglia, the MP for Sissala East accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Adamu Yakubu, announced that, candidates would be provided with meals during the exam period to help them concentrate. The MP also provided all students with mathematical sets and pens for their examinations and promised a full scholarship for the top 10 students in the municipality for their entire senior high school education. He encouraged them to work hard and succeed in a brighter future.
A total of 64 junior high schools across the Sissala East Municipality are participating in the BECE.
