Use district offices for registration of births – Registry to public
The Births & Deaths Registry has encouraged the public to utilise district and regional offices, as well as its online platform, for birth certificate registration, rather than converging at the national headquarters.
In an interview with Channel One News’ Fred Duhoe, Deputy Registrar, Nicholas Osei Bonsu explained that the registry’s services are fully decentralised and accessible across the country.
“We encourage the public to register in their respective districts. This place is primarily for administrative purposes,” he said, referring to the head office in Accra.
“Our regional and district offices are well-equipped to handle all registration needs, so there’s no need to travel long distances.”
He added that the age group most commonly requiring birth certificates falls between 1 and 16 years. In such cases, guardians are advised to visit the nearest district office for assistance.
Osei Bonsu also highlighted the availability of a digital registration system designed to simplify the process.
“You can now apply online at https://hbdrp.bdr.gov.gh or through www.ghana.gov. Once payment is made and your information uploaded, it reaches our backend immediately. Our officers are on standby to process the request within 10 to 20 minutes,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Registrar assured the public that the overall process is now faster and more efficient than ever before.
