Mahama: Military Academy course to become postgraduate diploma
President John Dramani Mahama has announced a significant upgrade of the Ghana Military Academy’s Commissioning Course to Post-Graduate Diploma status.
Speaking at the Ghana Military Academy Graduation, Regular Career Course 63, he announced the coming on stream of a National Defence University with a Presidential Charter, which will provide the institution with the mandate to pursue extensive teaching and learning, thereby contributing to the development of effective national defence strategies
He underscored that the Military Academy’s commissioning course will now be elevated to a Post-Graduate Diploma program, providing newly commissioned officers with advanced training and qualifications.
According to the president, the move aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of military officers, aligning with the National Defence University’s standards.
He emphasised that the upgrade is part of the government’s efforts to improve the Ghana Military Academy’s facilities and resources, enabling it to achieve its mandate effectively.
“I am particularly elated about the coming on stream of the National Defence University with the Presidential Charter. The Charter provides the Ghana Armed Forces with the mandate to explore and facilitate extensive teaching and learning towards more effective National Defence and Security. Conceptually, as one of the constituent colleges of the National Defence University, the Ghana Military Academy will receive the needed facilities to achieve its mandate.
“This intervention will actualise the upgrading of the Commissioning Course to be updated to Post-Graduate Diploma status for newly commissioned officers. And so when the officers are commissioned, they will come out with a Post-Graduate Diploma,” he said.
