Asamoah Gyan urges Black Stars to give it their all ahead of crucial Madagascar clash
Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has issued a passionate plea to the Black Stars, urging them to give it their all and leave everything on the pitch in Ghana’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Madagascar after their emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad in Accra.
The four-time African champions delivered a commanding performance at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night, surging to the top of Group I with 12 points from five outings. This triumph not only enhanced Ghana’s prospects of qualifying for the World Cup but also reinforced their position as a formidable force in the qualifiers.
Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, Asamoah Gyan, played a key role in boosting team morale ahead of the Chad match. The 39-year-old, who boasts an impressive six World Cup goals – the most by an African player, joined the Black Stars on their trip to Morocco for Monday’s pivotal clash.
Addressing the team at their hotel in Morocco, Asamoah Gyan exuded confidence in the Black Stars’ qualification prospects, emphasizing the importance of sustained focus and unwavering commitment to give their absolute best.
“Let’s go 100%. I want Ghanaians to see you heckling and fighting. We have great players, the talent and everything is there but that commitment, a bit, just small and we would get there.”
The former Sunderland striker reminded the players that while club commitments are important, the World Cup is the ultimate prize, and it’s time to put everything into perspective.
“Sometimes, you can come and your club will be telling to be careful but the world cup is the ultimate.”
With their latest win against Chad, Ghana now sits two points ahead of second-placed Madagascar, who have 10 points. Comoros follows closely in third with nine points after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Mali, who remain fourth with eight points. Central African Republic occupies fifth place with four points.
The Black Stars’ pursuit of qualification continues with a crucial away fixture aga inst Madagascar on Monday, March 24, where a victory would secure the Black Stars a comfortable lead in Group I.
As the race for a World Cup spot intensifies, Gyan’s backing provides both motivation and reassurance for a team eager to secure back-to-back World Cup qualification.
