Election 2024 recorded 63.9% voter turnout – CODEO

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has reported a voter turnout of 63.9% in Ghana’s 2024 general election, describing the process as largely peaceful but not without challenges.

Addressing the media from CODEO’s press centre on Sunday, December 8, the Chairperson of the CODEO Advisory Board, Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe, highlighted 228 incidents of election malpractice across the country.

These incidents included cases of intimidation, violence, vote buying, bribery, and unauthorized presence at polling stations, as well as violations of voting and counting procedures.
Constituencies Cited for Incidents

Rev. Dr. Deegbe cited specific constituencies where notable incidents were recorded, including Awutu Senya East, Odododiodioo, Ahafo Ano, Damongo, Okaikwei South, and Obuasi East. He emphasized the need for electoral stakeholders to address these challenges to enhance the credibility of future elections.

“From our PVT Provisional estimate, CODEO predicts voter turn-out as 63.9%, + or – o.5%. Rejected ballots rates at 2.1%, + or – 0.1%.

“As of 10 am [Sunday, December 8], CODEO Observers reported and confirmed 228 incidents during the opening, voting and counting stages of the polling processes across the country”

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has acknowledged initial challenges during the start of the 2024 general elections but commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for swiftly addressing them.
