Eid-ul Fitr: ‘Let’s Strive For Peace And Unity At All Times’ – Tumu Chief Imam
The Acting Chief Imam of Tumu, Alhaji Adamu Alidu Kanton has called on the public to strive for peace and unity at all times.
Addressing the congregants after the Eid-ul Fitr prayers at the Tumu Sports Stadium today, April 11, 2024, the Acting Chief Imam emphasized the importance of peace and unity within the community, especially in light of the upcoming elections and religious diversity.
He has also underscored the blessings of peace and unity that have enabled the community to come together in observance of such a significant religious occasion.
Alhaji Adamu Alidu Kanton has cautioned against letting minor differences, such as the timing of Eid prayers, bring about division among Muslims. “Let’s all strive for peace and unity at all times.” he urged while stressing that divergent views on worship should not be a source of conflict.
The Imam also touched on the disciplined nature of Ramadan, a time when Muslims abstain from food and other desires from dawn until dusk, adhering to God’s commandments.
He also took the opportunity to remind the congregation that despite the end of the fasting period, the principles of peace, unity, and tolerance should continue to guide their actions, particularly in an election year.
“Remember, no politician or government can solve all your problems; it is only God who can,” the Imam stated, and has also advised the youth to distance themselves from violence and reliance on politicians and political parties to solve their problems, but to place their trust in divine providence over political promises.
He likened the diversity of meals being prepared for Eid celebrations by families to the diversity of opinions and choices within the community, emphasizing that variety should enrich rather than divide.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Sissala East Municipality, Hon. Fuseini Yakubu Batong has also reiterated the call for peace, particularly highlighting the dangers of electoral violence. “Elections are not about fighting; they are about differences in ideas and policies,” he reminded the gathering.
Also, with the recent land disputes and tensions between some communities in the constituency, the MCE appealed to Islamic leaders to pray for peace and order to be restored in those areas.
Hon. Fuseini Y. Batong has therefore stressed the developmental impact of peace on the community, noting that resources would better be spent on pressing needs rather than on mitigating conflicts.
“We are on a developmental course and so if there happen to be fights or tensions then we would have no other choice than to use the limited resources at our disposal to try to restore peace at the expense of more pressing needs.”, he cautions.
He also took a moment to express his gratitude towards the Islamic leaders, including the Tumu Chief Imam, for their spiritual guidance, and to thank God for the protection and mercy granted throughout the Ramadan season.
