Calls Grow for Completion of Zini Community Day SHS as Kelwie Festival Ends

The 2026 Buwaala Kelwie Festival has come to a close in the Sissala West District, but one message stood out clearly; there is an urgent need to complete the Zini Community Day Senior High School.

The festival, celebrated on May 2, 2026, at the forecourt of the Zini Kuoro’s Palace, brought together people from all walks of life. Chiefs, politicians, security personnel, education workers, NGOs, asylum seekers, as well as the young and old, all gathered to mark the occasion.

Beyond the cultural displays and celebrations, this year’s festival created space for honest conversations about development in the area. While there was a sense of pride in the progress made in supporting vulnerable groups, especially those in the Tenni Woron Camp, many participants stressed that more needs to be done.

Adding his voice, the Member of Parliament for the Sisaala West Constituency and Deputy Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and innovation, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, assured residents of Buwa of President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to the development of the district. He revealed that the government has directed that 30 Community Day Senior High Schools across the country should be completed, with additional facilities such as student dormitories, teachers’ accommodation, more classrooms, and learning materials. According to him, the Zini E-Block is part of these schools to benefit from the initiative.

On infrastructure, Hon. Sukparu indicated that the stretch from Sangbaka to Nyentie will soon be cleared to allow the feeder roads department to move in and construct culverts, a move expected to improve access and reduce travel risks. Addressing concerns about poor network connectivity, he reassured the community, saying, “If anyone says Zini will not get a telephone mast, tell them, it is a lie. Zini will get a telephone mast soon. I have spoken with the engineers and have been assured.”

He also disclosed plans to relocate the Zini market to a newly demarcated site, with construction expected to begin soon. As part of his support for the festival, the MP donated an amount of GHS 10,000 to the organizing committee.
