Global InfoAnalytics projects NDC victory in Akwatia by-election
A new survey by Global Info Analytics suggests the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on course to capture the Akwatia parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The poll, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a sample of 2,050 registered voters, places NDC candidate Bernard Bediako ahead of his main challenger, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Final figures from the research show Bediako commanding 53%, compared to 47% for Asumadu.
The by-election was necessitated by the sudden passing of the sitting MP, Ernest Kumi of the NPP, on July 7. His death has set the stage for a high-stakes contest in Akwatia, a constituency that has historically swung between the two dominant parties.
Global InfoAnalytics noted that the outcome will be influenced not only by party allegiance but also by pressing voter concerns such as unemployment, rising economic hardship, and inadequate social infrastructure. These issues have emerged as central talking points in the campaign.
Despite Bediako’s projected advantage, analysts caution that undecided voters could still shape the outcome, either solidifying the NDC’s lead or narrowing the race in favour of the NPP.
Given Akwatia’s reputation as a bellwether constituency, the by-election is being closely watched nationwide. Security agencies have already announced heightened deployments to guarantee a peaceful vote, following a series of violent incidents recorded in previous electoral contests.
