Bawku Crisis: Govt confident Asantehene’s mediation will bring lasting peace – Minister
The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga, has reaffirmed the government’s support to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II-led mediation team in resolving the protracted chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.
He made the statement while addressing congregants at the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration grounds in Bolgatanga, on Monday, March 31, 2025.
The minister indicated that solving the conflict in Bawku remains the topmost priority of the Mahama-led government, and they are keen on it.

About 80 people, including one military officer, have been killed in Bawku and Walewale since the re-emergence of the chieftaincy clashes in October 2024.
The Bawku area remains volatile as residents are disintegrated based on community lines.

The Upper East Regional Minister, in his speech, indicated the government was confident the Asantehene-led mediation would bring finality to the matter.
