Military deployed as traders breach Adum security zone

Heightened tension erupted in Kumasi’s central business district, on Thursday morning, April 24, after hundreds of aggrieved traders forced their way into a restricted zone at the Adum Blue Light enclave, prompting a swift military deployment to quell the unrest.

The confrontation began when the traders defied an existing restriction by storming the area, overwhelming a police cordon in the process. Their action forced authorities to call in military reinforcements to support law enforcement efforts on the ground.

Scenes from the enclave showed military officers moving in to restore order amid growing agitation. Some of the traders reportedly attempted to confront the soldiers, further escalating tensions at the already volatile location.

Police remain stationed in the area alongside the military to prevent further disruption, while the traders continue to mass up at the scene, demanding access to trading spaces they say are essential for their livelihoods.
