Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Gov’t Completes 9 Interchanges, 16 More Projects Ongoing – Roads Minister
The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has secured funds for the construction of about 20 interchanges across the country, Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye has disclosed.
The Minister, in an exclusive interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ show, noted that none of the road works that have commenced under this administration will be left uncompleted.
He assured Ghanaians that every ongoing road network is already financed, hence will all be completed to ease traffic and facilitate commutes.
Francis Asenso-Boakye asserted that the current government has constructed more roads than the previous Mahama government, stressing the New Patriotic Party has done 13,624 kilometers of road work in the nation.
Detailing the track record of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration in the road sector, the Minister stated the government has, in the Ashanti Region, which has the largest road size in Ghana, constructed 2,126 km of road works, representing a “172% increase over what the NDC did” in the region, which was the NDC constructing 781 kilometers.
He continued, “In the Western Region, NDC did 567, but NPP has done 758 (34% increase). In the Bono Region, for instance, NDC did 151 kilometers, but NPP under Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia has done 509 kilometers; this is a 228% increase over what the NDC did. In the Bono East Region, there is a 278% increase from 146 by NDC to 547 kilometers by the NPP administration. Again, in the Ahafo Region, the former administration under President Mahama did 159 kilometers, but the NPP has achieved 333 kilometers, which is a 134% increase.”
He added, “In the Northern Region, the statistics is amazing. NDC did 333 kilometers, but the NPP has done 1,323 kilometers, which is a 295 percent increase. The same story for Savannah; you know Savannah Region is where President Mahama is from, and during his time, they were only able to do 203 kilometers, but the NPP has achieved 463 kilometers, which is a 128% increase.”
The Minister further stressed, “In the North East, the story is the same; 226% increase, that is, from 125 under President Mahama and Professor Mills to 458 under President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia. Western North too the same story, from 332 kilometers to 402 kilometers; 21% increase. So, the story goes on”.
Furthermore, Asenso-Boakye, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Bantama constituency, disclosed that the incumbent government has completed 9 interchanges and over 16 more ongoing.
“Already, the interchanges that have completed since Nana Akufo-Addo administration are nine, as against five in the 8 years of President Mahama and President Mills’ regime. It is also instructive to note that there are about over sixteen of them currently ongoing. You can mention the one in Nungua, Ajiriganor, Takoradi…There is Prampram; there is Suame interchange.”
