Electoral Commission Declares Votes for Late Akua Donkor Will Be Rejected
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced that all votes cast in favor of the late Madam Akua Donkor in the 2024 presidential election will be counted as rejected ballots. Despite her unfortunate demise, her image and party logo remain on the ballot paper for the upcoming election.
In a press release signed by the Deputy Chairman for Operations, Samuel Tettey, the Commission clarified that any votes cast for the late candidate will not contribute to the tally of valid votes. The decision aims to maintain transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
The Commission further emphasized that the directive has been communicated to its permanent and temporary staff as well as agents of all presidential candidates to ensure smooth compliance.
This clarification comes as part of efforts by the Electoral Commission to inform the general public ahead of the December polls. Voters are urged to make informed choices and adhere to the guidelines provided to avoid invalidating their votes.
