UPPER WEST REGIONAL MINISTER RECEIVES PETITION FOR CREATION OF SISAALA SOUTH DISTRICT
The Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, has assured the chiefs and people of the Sisaala area that the government will carefully consider the petition for the creation of the Sisaala South District.
The Minister gave this assurance during a high-profile working tour of the Sissala East Municipality, where he was accompanied by the Upper West Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdul Nasir Saani (Chairman Bunas), a Member of the Council of State, and several senior officials from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
The delegation was received by the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Adamu Yakubu, the NDC Sissala East Constituency Chairman, Mr. Razak Mahama Namoro, and officials from the Municipal Assembly.Addressing the Walembelle, Bawiesibelle, Banu, and Tumu Paramountcies, Hon. Puozuing announced that President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to visit Wa on the 31st of this month. The President will launch a regional development agenda at the forecourt of the Wa Naa’s palace, designed to showcase the region’s raw materials and investment potential to the international community.
The Minister urged the traditional authorities to lead their people to attend the launch in their numbers, describing it as a pivotal moment for attracting investors to the region.
In response to concerns raised by the Paramount Chief of Nabulo regarding the need for a Senior High School and a polyclinic, as well as general complaints about the state of roads, the Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to rural development. He explained that after the completion of the “Big Push” road projects, focus would shift to the rehabilitation of inner-village roads.
Addressing the plight of farmers facing a maize glut, Hon. Puozuing disclosed that he had already held a presser on the matter and would engage the President to ensure the state buys the excess maize at a guaranteed price. He added that the Sissala area would also benefit from upcoming government farm mechanization centers.
The highlight of the visit at the Walembelle Traditional Council was the formal presentation of a petition for the creation of the Sisaala South District. Hon. Puozuing promised to forward the request to the President through the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development for the necessary action.
The Minister thanked the paramountcies for their support over the past year and encouraged them to remain partners in the government’s development drive.
